Carolyn (Mrs. Edwin) Harsha, 94, of the Glenwood Place in Marshalltown, former longtime Melbourne area resident, died Saturday evening, May 17th, at her home while in the loving care of her family, Glenwood Place and the Iowa Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 23rd, at the St. John United Church of Christ in Melbourne with Pastor Linda Schmidt officiating. Immediately following the services, all are invited to a time of fellowship and lunch in the church fellowship hall. She will be laid to rest in the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Marshalltown. Born Carolyn Marie Pfile on September 3rd, 1913, at Melbourne, Iowa, she was the daughter of Edward and Lydia (Wintermeier) Pfile. She graduated from the Melbourne High School in 1932. On Christmas Day of 1937, she was united in marriage to Edwin Harsha in Marshalltown. They resided at Baxter for 10 years and then moved to her family farm at Melbourne where she was born. The couple retired into the town of Melbourne in 1978 and then to Glenwood Place in Marshalltown four years ago.Mrs. Harsha was a member of the St. John UCC in Melbourne and enjoyed flower gardening, quilting, sewing, cooking, visiting with people who would call on her, her church and treasured her family and friends.Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 70 years, Edwin, her daughter Barbara (Marvin) Hawkins of Marshalltown, son Lawrence Larry (Carol) Harsha of Pasadena, California, two grandchildren: Craig (Audrey) Hawkins of Laurel and Dawn (Mark) Stallman of Des Moines, four great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren: Caitlin, Rudy, Harrison, Ritchina, Jared and Nicole, sister Mildred Heckert of Marshalltown and sister-in-law Mary Pfile of Baxter.In death she has rejoined her parents, siblings: Edward Pfile, Elsie Harbin, Vernadine Pfile, Susie Pfile and Albert who died in infancy, and great-granddaughter, Grace Elizabeth Stallman.
