Carolyn Wood, age 81, of Marshalltown, left this earthly life on the afternoon of Sunday, August 13th, at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.
A visitation to share memories will be held from 3-5:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 19th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Ph. 641-844-1234.
Born on January 29th, 1942, in State Center at Emma Wohlert’s birthing house, she was the daughter of and one of three children of Cecil and Dona (Anderson) Cole. She received her education in the Clemons Public Schools.
Carolyn obtained a strong work ethic at a young age starting at the St. Anthony Market, Donnelly’s in Nevada and the Iowa Veterans Home. It was here she gained her passion of taking care of those who took care of us.
At a Senior Citizens dance, she was asked by a gentleman by the name Mike Wood to dance. They did and she told him the next dance she would be there again – even though she swore she would never marry again. They danced that night and six months later, on June 30th, 2018, were married. He considered every hour and every minute a blessing to be her husband. They shared five years, one month, 14 days and 6.5 hours of marriage.
Carolyn was a member of the Center Street Baptist Church, the Red Hat Society and the Marshalltown Senior Citizens.
Left to cherish her memory is Mike, four children: Carmen (Donald) Pritchett of Zearing, Tim Sizemore of Grinnell, Teresa (Scott) Morris of Yankton, SD and Lisa (Troy) Meyer of State Center; grandchildren: Donny (Sandra) Pritchett, Tara (JD) DeBrower, Jared (Courtney) Sizemore, Dalis Sizemore, Amber (Wyatt) Weeks and Samantha Jacobson; seven great-grandchildren and another one on the way in March; one-great-great-granddaughter and Mike’s family- children Melissa (Roland) Kane of Mt. Home, Arkansas, Marcus (Elisa) Wood of Norwalk, Marcia (Chris) Krull of Garwin and seven grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.
In death, Carolyn rejoined her parents, son Dale Sizemore, sister Judy Mabe and brother Edward “Shorty” Cole.
