Catherine Kay Hockett, 92, of Marshalltown, died early Friday morning, March 30th, at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center while in care of the Iowa River Hospice.Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 2nd, at St. Marys Catholic Church with Fr. Jim Miller as celebrant. She will be laid to rest in the Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home on Sunday from 5-7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. vigil service. Ph 844-1234.She was born in Marshalltown on January 23rd, 1915, and was the daughter of Earl N. and Catherine R. (Weber) Peak. She was a graduate of Iowa State. She was united in marriage to Leon Hockett in Marshalltown, at St. Marys Catholic Church on December 12, 1937.Kay was an active member of the St. Marys Catholic Church parish, the Marshalltown Garden Club, Toastmasters, the Crosby Arboretum, Central Iowa Horticulturists, Optimists International, and was credited for making changes to Roberts Rules of Order. Kay was a doctorate of Electronic Engineering and was the Senior Iowan of Certified Parlimentarians. She dedicated her life to not-for-profit and charity work. Left to mourn her loss is her son, Carlos Portes of New York City.In death, she has rejoined her parents and her husband, Leon.
