Catherine Pappas, 99, of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 7, 2016, at Bickford Cottage in Marshalltown, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 15, 2016, at St. Marys Catholic Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 14, 2016, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Catherine Cecelia Bulanek was born on September 21, 1916, in Brooklyn, Iowa. Her parents James Harold and Helen Josephine (Musil) Bulanek moved to Marshalltown in 1920, where she raised her entire life. She attended School at St. Marys Catholic School graduating with the Class of 1934. After graduation she was employed at Marshalltown Manufacturing for several years. On January 14, 1948, Catherine was united in marriage to Thomas Nicholas Pappas at St. Marys Catholic Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. Catherine raised five children and was a homemaker and enjoyed growing flowers and vegetables, and sharing her bounty with others. Catherine was known for excellent cooking and baking skills and was an avid recipe collector. She also enjoyed reading, sewing, board puzzles and her soap opera "Edge of Night". Left to cherish Catherines memory are her children: Thomas (Kimberly) Pappas of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, Leo Pappas of Marshalltown, Iowa, Cecilia (Donald Landis of Nevada, Iowa, Ronald (Colleen) Pappas of Grundy Center, Iowa and Mary Adams of Fountain, Colorado; 6 grandchildren: Steven, Christopher, Matthew, Logan, Chad and Benjamin; 5 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild; siblings, Joseph Bulanek of State Center, Ruth Needham of Marshalltown, Evelyn Talbert of Lakewood, California, Veronica Jay of Marshalltown, Bernard Bulanek of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Bernadette(Frank) Overman of Council Bluffs, Iowa. Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas, parents, James and Helen; and siblings, Harold, Josephine, Leo, Dorothy and Lawrence, a grandchild, Kenneth and an infant great-grandchild.
