Cathrine Lake

Cathrine Ann “Katy” Lake, age 89, of Marshalltown, passed away at her home Friday, November 22, 2019, under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Cremation rites have been given and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. December 7th at St Francis of Assis Parish – St. Henry’s Church in Marshalltown. Private burial will be at a later date in the Barkley Cemetery, New London, Missouri. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Memorial contributions may be directed to Iowa River Hospice in her name. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Katy’s family. Cathrine Ann “Katy” Lake was born on August 8, 1930 in Tyrone, Iowa, the daughter of Owen and Margaret (Hynd) Conley. She grew up in Albia and graduated from the Albia High School. As a young woman she moved to Marshalltown where she met and married John Lake on March 12, 1954. Katy had worked at Montgomery Wards before she and John opened Lake’s Upholstery business in Marshalltown which they operated for many years. Katy enjoyed traveling and loved people and having fun. She loved going to Embers to be with her coffee club ladies. She was a member of St. Henry’s Church. Surviving are a stepson, John Lake, Jr.; two step daughters, Sue Hirner and Gayle Owsley; two brothers: Pat (Marilyn) Conley and Alex (Sharon) Conley; many nieces and nephews, and her loving dog, Skip. Katy was preceded in death by eight siblings: Jim, John, Bill, Tom, Owen and Robert Conley, Margaret Cline, Mary Locke and Agnes O’Brien.
