Cathryn Seeger, 84, longtime State Center schoolteacher, died Wednesday, May 26th, at the State Center Nursing and Rehab Center while in their loving care and that of the Iowa Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 1st, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in State Center. Visitation will be held one-hour prior to the services at the church. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home West Marshall Chapel in State Center is caring for Cathryn and her family. Ph 641-483-2900. Born Cathryn Whitlow on January 12th, 1926, at Swea City, Iowa, she was the daughter of Dr. Archie and Caroline (Bailey) Whitlow. She graduated from the Armstrong High Schools class of 1943 and then the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. Mrs. Seeger began her teaching career in Springville, Iowa until moving to State Center in 1946. She obtained her BA degree from Drake University in Des Moines in 1964. A devoted teacher until her retirement in 1987, she was blessed with 38 years of educating the younger generations of West Marshall. Cathryn was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, the OES, Royal Neighbors of America and the Delta Nu Study Club. She will be fondly remembered for her love of family, playing piano (by ear), presenting monologues for her clubs and groups, remembering everyones birthdays, playing bridge and doing crosswords. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Brian Seeger of Columbus, Ohio, and Jennifer Town of Coronado, CA two granddaughters: Stephanie and Kristin Seeger both of Columbus, two great-grandchildren Kaleb and Alyson, her sisters Carol Lee (Dr. Don) Boyle of Okoboji and Rose Ellen Coyle of Minneapolis as well as nieces and nephews, sister-in-law Agnes Whitlow of Iowa City, her family at State Center Nursing and Rehab and a host of friends. In death, she was rejoined with her parents and two brothers- Robert and William.
