Cecil Hoffman Born December 30, 1933 and died June 2, 2016. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, June 6, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at St Marys Catholic Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 5, 2016, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with a Vigil and Rosary to follow. He attended Immaculate Conception Catholic School in Haverhill and St. Marys in Marshalltown. He graduated in 1951. Cecil was an accomplished baseball player and a good all-around athlete. On April 25, 1953 he married Marilyn Beurskens. He was active in his community as a coach in the Marshalltown Little League Association, Knights of Columbus and the Lake Cornelia Improvement Association. Cecil enjoyed following and being a fan of Notre Dame, Chicago Cubs, stock car racing and Iowa college and university teams. He was an avid gardener who liked a well manicured, weed-free lawn. Other things you should know about Cecil: 1970s - last known sighting of brown hair, would pick up Sherri and her friends and take them for a scoop of the loop, coaches the Marshalltown Senior Little League to the State Championship and the birth of Cecil Hoffenbacher popcorn. 1980s - empty nesters 1990s - retirement, lake life begins with winters in Texas. 2000s - 50th Anniversary, Hole in One. 2010s - 60th Anniversary Fan of: Becky and the Ivanhoe Dutchmen, grandchildren, Its 5:00 Somewhere," Red Beers, good people, popcorn and being at the lake. Not a fan of: weeds, Johnny Football, jet skis and any opponent of Notre Dame. Most important to him was his faith and family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Marcella (Neuroth) Hoffman; sister, Dolores Henchal; and infant son, Peter. He is survived by sons, Terry Hoffman (Jane) and Tim Hoffman (Carolyn); daughter, Sherri Hoye (Bruce) and grandchildren Erin, Carissa (Gabe), Noel, Laura, Caitlin and Grant. Memorials may be made to St. Francis Catholic School, Marshalltown Little League or the Lake Cornelia Improvement Association.
