Charlene Hrnicek, 69, of State Center, died Thursday, November 10, 2011, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa. Visitation for Charlene will be held from 5:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m., Sunday, November 13, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, where her family will be present to greet friends. Funeral services for Charlene will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 14, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Burial will follow services at the Melbourne Cemetery. Charlene was born June 8, 1942, in Nevada, Iowa, the daughter of Maurice and Laurene (Day) Wycoff. She graduated from the Nevada, High School in 1960 and then moved to Marshalltown where she went to work at Marshalltown Instruments. Charlene later married Charles Hrnicek and to this union, their daughter Shelly was born. Charlene and Charles later divorced and Charlene moved to State Center. Throughout her lifetime she worked for Elmwood Country Club, Fisher Controls and later owned and operated Chars Caf and Chars Cake and Catering. Charlene was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Marshalltown and served the community of Marshalltown as a dedicated volunteer at the House of Compassion. Charlene is survived by her daughter Shelly (Rick) Monk, of State Center, her brother Mark (Catherine) Wycoff of Lowell, Arkansas, her sister Charon Samson of Caliente, Nevada, and her grandchildren: Zack and Nicki Monk of State Center. Charlene was preceded in death by her parents and her brother-in-law Jerry Samson.
