Charles "Chuck" Gummert

Charles “Chuck” Gummert, 82, of Quarry, Iowa, passed away on the evening of Tuesday, August 6, 2019 in the comfort of his own home. Funeral services for Chuck will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 12, 2019 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Rick Bachman officiating. Public visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 11, 2019 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home, where Chuck’s family will be present to greet friends. Charles Gummert was born on January 11, 1937 in Quarry, Iowa the son of Thomas E. and Helen E. (Reaves) Gummert. He was raised and educated in the Le Grand School District, where he graduated from Le Grand High School. Following high school, Chuck was drafted and served our Country honorably in the United States Army.    On September 5, 1959, just one year after being drafted to the military, he was united in marriage to his lovely wife, Donna Rash, as the first couple married in the new St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Marshalltown. From this union the couple had one beautiful daughter, Anita. Chuck was a hardworking man, dedicating most of his working career as a machinist with the Railroad. He was a proud member of the First United Church of Christ. Chuck enjoyed tinkering around with different projects, listening to Country music, spending time with his family and friends and could usually be spotted mowing someones lawn for them. Left to cherish his memory is his sister, Shirley Gummert; numerous cousins; one aunt, Midge Gummert and companion, Sandy May. He is preceded in death by his wife, Donna Gummert; daughter, Anita Gummert and parents, Thomas and Helen Gummert.
