Charles Long, Jr., 89, formerly of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away on Thursday July14, 2011 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July, 16, 2011 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be on Friday July 15, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Marshalltown. Memorials may be directed to the family to be designated at a later date. Charles Long Jr. was born in rural Conrad on July 16, 1921; he was the son of Charles and Myrtle (Fiscus) Long. He was educated in the area of his birth. Charles served our country honorably serving in the Army Air Core as a pilot during World War II. Charles was united in marriage to Marylouise (Graves) on August 1, 1943 in the Albion Methodist Church. He had lived in Marshalltown and most recently in West Des Moines. Charles had been employed at Lennox Industries for 48 years. He had been the District Governor for the Lions Club, been on the board of the Lennox Credit Union, ZaGaZig Shrine High 12 and York Rite, Order of Eastern Star, Albion Damascus #268 Lodge in which he had been secretary for many years, and was a 50 year member, he had many memberships and been in many organizations, Charles loved to be around friends and family and he never knew a stranger. Left to cherish his memory are his children; Larry (Shirley) Long of Wichita , Kansas, Kevin (Pam) Long of Marion, Iowa, Gregory (Cheryl) Long of Johnston, Iowa and Mitzi (Doug) Currie of Polk City, Iowa, grandchildren; Tammy Meyer, Jeff Long, Aaron Long Matt Long, Jennifer Long, Nathan Long, Angela Greubel, Jeffrey Currie, Brian Currie and Colin Currie, 23 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Beverly Wagner of Marshalltown. In death Charles rejoins his parents, his wife Marylouise, daughter-in-law Jackie, grandsons Michael and David, great-granddaughter Ashley and great-grandson Scott, four brothers and four sisters.
