Charles L. Charlie Polley, 83, of Marshalltown, died early Thursday morning, April 29th, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 3rd, at the Center Street Baptist Church with Pastor Bobby Shomo officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-6:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Full military honors will be presented by the VFW Harry C. Harter Post #839. Born on February 13th, 1927, in Jackson Township near Eldora, Iowa, he was the son of William C. and Esther (Granzow) Polley. He received his education in the area of his birth and graduated from the Owasa High School. Charlie served our country honorably in the United States Navy in WWII from June 2, 1944 until May 26th, 1946. He received his honorable discharge as Petty Officer 3/c Aviation Ordinance. On May 1st, 1947, he was united in marriage to Irene DeSchamp in Eldora. They farmed in the Hardin County area until he took employment with the United States Post Office, retiring as Postmaster in LeGrand in 1989. They resided in Eldora, Marshalltown, Ankeny and LeGrand and returned to Marshalltown. Mr. Polleys find of the stolen Monet painting in March of 1988 gifted the town of LeGrand the Monet Center. Charlie was a faithful member of the Center Street Baptist Church and enjoyed woodworking, yard work, gardening, visiting with friends and neighbors, hunting and fishing, helping others with projects and treasured his family. Left to cherish his memory are Irene, his loving wife of 62 years, children: David C. ( Lee) of Norwalk, Iowa, Robert L. (Sandy) of Marshalltown, Steve D. of Tulsa, OK and Marlene (Akbar) Mirian of Urbandale, 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, church family, neighbors and friends. In death, he rejoined his parents, siblings Merle, Marie, Donald and Harlan Polley, Doris Sinning, Wilma Terveer and Emmy Hoekstra and daughter-in-law Chris Polley
