Born on May 15th, 1931, in Marshalltown, he was one of two boys born to Glenn and Lois (Rylander) Sloat. He graduated from the Ferguson High School in 1949. From the fall of 1953 until November of 1955, he served our country honorably in the United States Army.

On September 3rd, 1960, he was united in marriage to Virginia Shore at the Baptist Temple in Marshalltown. They farmed southeast of Ferguson until moving to Marshalltown in 1993. From February of 1993, until December 30th, of 2023, Chuck worked at Menard’s. Still working the floor at 92 years old, management referred to him as a “Rock Star.” He loved what he did and the friends he made at work.

Chuck enjoyed collecting toy AC tractors, toy shows, auctions, puzzles and feeding the squirrels. He treasured his family.

Left to cherish his memory is Virginia, his loving wife of 63 years; three children- Brenda (Kevin) Severson of Marshalltown, Chad (Laura) Sloat of Mt. Pleasant and Amy Jolene Sloat of Marshalltown; his grandchildren- Emily (Peter) Bowles, Alaina (Brandon) Goldman, Mason, Max and Isabella Sloat and Jacquelyn (Ryan) Schreiner; great-grandchildren- Bennett Bowles, Paige Goldman, Jack Bowles, Leo Goldman, Scarlett Schreiner and Myles and Kennedy Goldman as well as many family and friends.

In death, Chuck rejoined his parents, brother Raymond and was able to take the hand of his son Douglas, who passed away at nine years old (the anniversary of Doug’s passing was the day before Chuck passed).
