Born Cheryl Sue Pollock on July 30th, 1966, in West Union, Iowa, she was the youngest of seven children born to Gordon and Arlene (Schultz) Pollock. Cheryl graduated from the Valley of Elgin High School in 1984 and graduated from Luther College. Highlights of her college life were her close group of friends and touring Europe with the Luther College Nordic Choir. She passed out bibles on the communist side of the Berlin Wall, prior to the fall of the wall. It was an illegal activity, but her desire was to share her love of God. On October 12th, 1991, Cheryl was united in marriage to Darrell Slifka at the Illyria Church near Elgin, Iowa. Cheryl was employed in Ames until having children. Once the girls were in school, she gained employment at the West Marshall Elementary School as the elementary secretary, she was the Office Mom. She often said of the school, she did not have co-workers, but friends. Her favorite nicknames were Hon and Kiddo. Mrs. Slifka was blessed to work with those she loved- the school children and coworkers (friends). She was an active member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in State Center and a part of the God Infusion singing group of the church. Left to cherish her memory are Darrell, her loving husband of 18 years, three daughters: Celene, Sydney and Shay all at home, her parents Gordon and Arlene Pollock of Elgin, siblings: Vali (Warren) Leeps of Decorah, Scott (the late Joan) Pollock of Volga, Tom (Lenee) Pollock of Parkersburg, Deon (Kurt) Amundson of Mt.
