Christopher Wayne Chris Carkhuff, 56, of Marshalltown, passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2016, at his home after a long battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. The family has requested casual dress. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 22, 2016, at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family. For condolences please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Chris and his family. Phone: 641-844-1234. Chris was born on June 2, 1959, in Spokane, Washington, to Landy and Mary Jo (Paxson) Carkhuff. As a young child Chris moved to Iowa with his mom and siblings, attending schools in Gilman and Marshalltown. He married Robin Cumins in 1987. They had three children: Jamie, Rachel, and Jeremy. Chris and Robin were later divorced. Chris was a devoted father and was very active in raising his children. Besides school events, he enjoyed outings with them at local lakes for a day of swimming or fishing, trips to Adventureland, watching Nascar races, and many other activities. After a long relationship, Chris was united in marriage to Kim ONeill on December 29, 2014. He inherited his mothers love for cooking and was often seen in the kitchen alongside his wife. They enjoyed trips to Las Vegas and visiting the local casino. He was employed in management at PMX Industries in Cedar Rapids for many years and most recently at TPI in Newton. Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Kim; sons, Jamie (April) Carkhuff of Cleburne, TX and Jeremy (Chelsea) Carkhuff of Newton, IA; daughter, Rachel (Francisco) Morales of Humboldt, IA; first-born grandson, Ayden Morales; soon-to-be-born granddaughter, Adyson JoAnn Carkhuff and her big brother, Waylon Bardwell. Also surviving are stepdaughters, Heather (Andy) Menzel and Tiffany ONeill (Bryce Shideler) of Kansas City and stepson Alfred ONeill. Chris will also be dearly missed by his brothers, Lennie (Dixie) Carkhuff of Laurel, IA and Max (Cathy) Carkhuff of Marshalltown; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. In death Chris rejoins his loving mother, Mary Jo Albee and grandparents, Max and Hazel Paxson.
