Christian Valencia, 31, of Marshalltown, left this earth much too soon on Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City. Funeral Services for Christian will take place on Wednesday, December 9 at 2:00 P.M. at Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, with a visitation taking place prior to services from 12:00-2:00 P.M. All attendees are required to wear masks and practice social distancing guidelines. His family also requests attendees wear bright colors to celebrate his life. Following services, Christian will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery and will receive military honors provided by the combined VFW/American Legion Honor Guard of the surrounding area. After David’s passing, Maria was married to Ruben Guzman and together they raised Christian and his siblings from a young age. They moved to Marshalltown in 1999 and he graduated from Marshalltown High School in 2007. Christian honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps for four years following his graduation. After his time in the service, he worked at Sherwin Williams, first as Assistant Manager in Ottumwa and then as Store Manager in Oskaloosa. Christian enjoyed cooking, eating and playing golf. He loved spending time with his mom and keeping in touch with his family. Christian was a great son, brother, uncle, nephew and friend and will be deeply missed by many. Left to cherish his memory are his parents: Maria and Ruben Guzman; his siblings: Britzia Valencia, David Valencia III, Lisa (Guillermo) Gaytan, Ruby Guzman and Eliana Guzman; nieces: Khloe Valencia, Julie Gaytan, Melanie Gaytan and Linnea Gaytan; maternal grandparents, Audel Sr. and Maria Ruiz; paternal grandparents, David Sr. and Leonor Valencia; uncles: Audel Ruiz Jr., Jose Ruiz, Jesse Ruiz, Edi Ruiz, Josue Ruiz and Carlos Valencia; aunts: Lupita Coronado, Yanet Flores, Conchis Ruiz, Chelo Ruiz, Maria Cervantes, Adrianna Valencia and Lulys Valencia; numerous cousins and many friends. Christian is preceded in death by his birth father, David Valencia Jr. and his great-grandfather.
