Born on December 30th, 1942, in Sioux City, this little girl was lovingly adopted by Van and Herdis “Happy” Snyder on April 19th, of the following year. The family made their home in Muscatine, Gladbrook and Marshalltown. On March 8, 1959, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Mark Rubenbauer, in Iowa City. With this union, the colorful history of her adult life began- a dedicated mother, wife, grandma and great grandma who took the role of head grain cart operator for R and M Enterprises, East Marshall Scholarship Foundation, Trinity Lutheran Church of Dillon, Ladies Aid Bible Study Group, Quaker Lane, Dillon Club, Ladies Fellowship, room mother at East Marshall, Rock and Read, taught Sunday school, chaired the funeral committee at church and was director of VBS. The couple farmed near Dillon all their married lives. Chris enjoyed country drives looking at the corn, cooking (NOT BAKING!), watching sports, traveling with Mark and being a social butterfly. Recently she had a poem published in the Lutheran Message about COVID-19. Many were recipients of her cards on holidays, sicknesses and simply a note of encouragement. Left to cherish her memory are her son Eric (Kerri) Rubenbauer of rural Marshalltown; her daughter- Leiah (Alan) Craun of LeGrand; as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Ashley (Travis) McFarland and Jacey and Maxim all of Grimes; Justine (Daniel) Hoover and Kenny, Eliza and Miles all of Cedar Falls; Phillip (Jordan) Rubenbauer and Tucker and Hudson of rural Marshalltown; Andrew Rubenbauer, Brooklyn, NY; David (Abigaile) Stevens and Jack of rural Marshalltown; Angela (Nick) Patrick and Amelia of Wolf Lake; Brenna(Brian) DeLong and Dallen of Knoxville, Iowa; and Jessica (Rick) Marks and Chase and Lyrick of Marshalltown; and sister-in-law, Mary Walter, of Clive. In death, Chris rejoined her parents, her beloved Mark and brother-in-law Jared Walter. May all of you remember her beautiful spirit when you hear “Oh Holy Night” this Christmas- or when you savor a Werther’s candy; when you see the daisies in bloom or a cardinal in the whiteness of snow, the corn this coming harvest and, of course, seeing a Partridge in a Pear Tree Christmas. She loved and treasured you all!
