Claire Goshon, 96 of Marshalltown passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Hawkeye Care Center in Marshalltown and under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Dillon, Iowa on Wednesday October 19, 2016. Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 18, 2016, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Military Honors will be provided by Veteran of Foreign Wars Post # 839 and by American Legion Post in the Marshalltown area. Memorial may be directed to the family to be designated at a later date. Born on December 8, 1919, at his parental home near Ferguson, Iowa he was the son of Warren and Maude (Mohr) Goshon. He graduated from the Ferguson High School class of 1937. On September 2, 1940, Claire was united in marriage to Ruth Wolken at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Dillon. He lived and farmed in the rural Gilman area until moving to Marshalltown in 1976. Claire was also owner operator of a Semi Trucking Service for many years. He retired from Martin Marietta in 1984, in retirement he drove limousines for Godfrey Limousine Service. Claire served his Country Honorably in the United States Army, driving an ammunition truck in the Philippines during World War II. Ruth and Claire enjoyed Square Dancing and playing cards. He was well known for his pool playing skills, golfing, and bowling. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Dillon, Veteran of Foreign Wars and American Legion. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Richard (Denise) Steven, Kay (Greg) Davidson and Dennis (Ruth), 16 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-great-grandchildren and sister, Marla Grossman. In death he rejoins his wife of 70 years, Ruth, his parents, granddaughter Jenny, great-granddaughter Valinda, sister Janice (Floyd) Sisson and brother-in-law James Grossman.
