A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at St. Francis of Assisi-St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marshalltown, with lunch to follow. Visitation will be at Mitchell Family Funeral Home on Monday, January 17th from 4 p.m. until 5 p.m. with a Vigil Service beginning at 5 p.m. She will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery. Memorials to honor Claire may be directed to the Marshalltown Parks and Rec Department, 10 W. State St., for the Riverview Park Improvement Project or to Riverside Cemetery for storm restoration. Both are in Marshalltown, Iowa. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Claire and her family. Claire Yungwirth was born on January 27, 1924 in Marshalltown to parents Joseph and Antonia (Maitz) Yungwirth. She was raised in Marshalltown where she graduated from St Mary’s High School in 1941. She attended Central Iowa Business College in Marshalltown and was then employed by F.W. Woolworth. She was employed by Franklin School for 14 years beginning in 1969 and for 26 years by General Nutrition Center. On March 29, 1943 Claire was united in marriage to Lester R. Wolter in Roswell, New Mexico. The couple made their home in Marshalltown where they raised their six children. She and her husband enjoyed ballroom dancing and traveling. Claire enjoyed playing cards, knitting and crocheting, and entertaining her family and friends with parties, holiday celebrations, jokes, and card tricks. Claire was an active member of St Mary’s Catholic Church and was a member of St. Theresa’s and St. Patrick’s Study Clubs. She was president of the St. Mary’s School PTA and served on the school board. She was a Cub Scout den mother for Pack 308. Claire was a member of the Marshalltown Lioness Club where she has served as President. Lovingly known as Grandma Claire, she will be greatly missed by her family, as well as, her large circle of friends. Left to cherish Claire’s memory are her children Vicki (Stephen) Frawley of Lake Shore, MN; Robert (Theresa) Wolter of San Diego, CA; Deborah (Robert) Friedrichs of Mason City, IA; and Patrick (Mary) Wolter of Holland, MI; son-in-law Erwin Beutler of Marshalltown; and her grandchildren Christopher (Angela) McLean and great-grandchildren twins Catherine and Zachary, and Adam of Coralville, IA; Jeffrey (Allison Layfield) Frawley of Las Cruces, NM; Michael (Carolyn) Frawley and great grandchildren, Christopher and Evelyn of St. Paul, MN; Virginia (David) Renke and great grandchildren Addie Claire, Brooks, and Cora of Hermosa Beach, CA; Robert (Celia Jackson) Wolter of Royal Oaks, MI; John (Vanessa Stark) Wolter of San Diego, CA; Jessica (Scott) Henderson and great grandson, Niklas of Minneapolis, MN; Joseph (Maggie) Friedrichs of Grand Marias, MN; Benjamin (Liz) Wolter of Renton, WA; Abigail Wolter of Atlanta, GA; Andrew Wolter of Jacksonville, FL; Krista (Mark) Delange and great grandchildren, Alexander and Kennedy Claire of Chicago, IL; Ryan (Bethany) Wolter and great grandsons, Simon Martin and Charles of Holland, MI; Elizabeth (Damen) Bosscher of Holland, MI; and Grant Wolter of Chicago, IL. Claire was preceded in death by her husband Les in 2006; her daughter, Dianne Beutler, her son, Thomas; her infant daughter, Linda Kay; her parents; her three sisters; Elizabeth Morgan, Mary Rash and Helen Holmes and her three brothers: Edward Yungwirth, Leo Yungwirth and George Yungwirth.
