Clara Ann had a truly miraculous life from day one. She was born two months prematurely on February 9, 1928 at her parents’ rural home east of Whitten during a snow storm. She was the second of three daughters born to Henry and Charity Ruth Koch. After attending country school in the Felix Township, Ann graduated from Whitten High School with the class of 1945. She was united in marriage to Dale Reece Hauser in a double ceremony with her sister on December 29, 1945 at the Whitten Parsonage. The couple made their home in Whitten, where they raised their two children. She loved and cared for her disabled husband unconditionally for 61 years until his passing. In addition to caring for her family, Ann dedicated 33 years as a secretary at Clapsaddle Sales and Services in rural Whitten.

Ann was a gifted writer, dedicating poems for hundreds of special occasions. She enjoyed socializing and taking part in many different organizations over the years, including: lifetime membership, Worthy Matron, and chair of the Order of the Eastern Star; lifetime member of Federation of Women Tryst Club; 30 year member and historical photographer of the Hotsy Foxy Red Hat Society; coordinator of the Whitten graduates “Gang-get-together”; founding member of the Marshalltown Multiple Sclerosis Support Group; charter member of the Central Iowa Handicap Society; and Bingo Volunteer at Oakview, Inc. from 2006-2014. Ann was an avid camper, including attending 48 consecutive years at the Iowa State Fair. She was a member of the Whitten Community Church, and also attended New Hope Christian Church. Ann always said she was “blessed to be a blessing.” She counted her lifelong and short-term friendships and her beloved family among her greatest of many lifelong accomplishments.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Elaine B. Peterson of Marshalltown; daughter-in-law, Rosemary Hauser of Marshalltown; five grandchildren: Mark (Chris) Hauser of Marshalltown, Michael (Emily) Hauser of Florida, David (Maria) Hauser of Polk City, Rick Jr. (Jennifer) Peterson of Waukee and Elizabeth Peterson of Colorado; eight great-grandchildren: Austin (Kinsey) Hauser, Aaron Hauser, Cole (Lauren) Hauser, Londyn Hauser, Lilliana Hauser, Simon Hauser, Tyler Peterson and Lucas Peterson; and one great-great-grandson, Hutchinson Hauser; ten nephews, one niece, and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.

In eternal life, Ann is preceded in death by her beloved husband Dale R. Hauser, her son Lynn B. Hauser, son-in-law Rick A. Peterson Sr., her parents Henry and Charity Ruth Koch, sisters Arlene Callaway and Joyce Wilson, sisters-in-law Donna Mae Barnard and Delores Hauser, and brothers-in-law: Donald Hauser, Paul Barnard, Ray Callaway and Robert Wilson.
