Clara Proffitt

Clara Marie Proffitt passed away peacefully from this earthly home to her heavenly home on Thursday, January 24, 2013 under the care of the Iowa River Hospice Home surrounded by her loving family.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown with a visitation one hour prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Clara and her family. Phone 641-844-1234.Clara was born on May 21, 1935 to Roy and Amanda Petrie Slifer. Clara was united in marriage to Robert Eugene Proffitt on November 5, 1949 at First United Methodist Church in Marshalltown. She was an avid bingo player, loved word search puzzles and her little dog O.J. but her greatest joy was her family.She is survived by her daughters: Pam (Dudley) Krier, Tammy (the late Ray) Foster and Michelle (Richard) Matherly Proffitt and a son Jim Proffitt all from Marshalltown; grandchildren: Samantha (Coltin) Kinney, Joseph (Carol Anderson) Krier, Jonathon Foster, Michael (Allison Perdew) Proffitt, Robert Proffitt, Chelsea Proffitt, Steven Proffitt Jr., Christopher Proffitt, Emily Proffitt, Vanessa (Sean) Geyer, Jillissa (Wade Snyder) Viles and Joshua (Alyssa Mobley) Jamell; great grandchildren: Hayden and Samuel and another due in August; sister: Florence Meling and many nieces and nephews.Clara was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved Bob who passed away in 1991, son: Steven Sr., granddaughter: Melissa Foster, sisters: Blanche Ayers, Viola Barker and Nellie Collins; brothers: Claude, Fred and Robert Slifer. She will be greatly missed by many.
