Clarabelle Hurkman, 84, of Marshalltown passed away at the Hawkeye Care Center in Marshalltown, Iowa on Saturday September 17, 2016. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Clarabelle and her family. Clarabelle Denison was born on June 20, 1932 to the parents of Charles and Ester (Been). She attended the Marshalltown School District. Clarabelle met a handsome young Edward Hurkman and were married soon after. The two would make their home in Marshalltown and raise three children. Clarabelle was a caring person and that showed true in her many years of work at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa as a nurses aide. She loved every day that she went to work and loved helping others. Her love for others carried over into her free time as well by volunteering with the Salvation Army. She would help teach bible study and help organize many events for the Salvation Army. Clarabelle was an avid Bingo player and enjoyed the atmosphere of the Meskwaki Bingo Casino. She loved to take her family and friends to penny bingo at the Senior Citizens Center and would always split the winnings. Left to cherish Clarabelles memory are her children David Hurkman of Ames and Connie Hurkman of State Center, grandchild Justin Hurkman of Ames, cousin Judy Been of Souix City, many nieces and nephews, and all of her bingo friends. She is preceded in death by her loving husband Edward, parents Charles and Ester and her son Paul.
