Clare Carlson

Clare Carlson, age 83, of Marshalltown, Iowa, went to be with his Lord and savior on the morning of December 18, 2021 surrounded by his loving family at the Iowa River Hospice Home. Services for Clare will be held on Monday, December 27, 2021 at 1:30 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 3:00-5:00 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home on Sunday, December 26, 2021. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Clare and his family. Clare Jerome Carlson was born May 5, 1938 to parents LaVerne Carlson and Mary (Bushina) Benson in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was one of three born to the family. Clare attended school in Marshalltown graduating in 1956 from Marshalltown High School. Following high school, Clare enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country until he was honorably discharged. On April 27, 1963, Clare was united in marriage to Leona Kelderman at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Together they began a family raising their four children, Lowell, Cynthia, Mary, and Robb. Clare worked to support his family as the Regional Sales Manager for Marshalltown Company where he worked until his retirement in 2001. Clare was active within his community and being part of the Marshalltown Kiwanas Club, Grace Church, volunteering on various church boards, and volunteering at Green Lake in the spring and fall time working on construction projects. In his free time, he was active within bowling leagues in Marshalltown, enjoyed fishing and hunting trips, woodworking, traveling, cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes and watching sports. He was a hardworking man that was family oriented and always stuck to his word. He was known by his family for his strong faith, servanthood and sense of humor. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Leona Carlson; his children, Lowell Carlson, Cynthia Carlson, Mary (Greg) Pepper and Robb (Angela) Carlson; his seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his brother Sam (Marlene) Carlson; his sister-in-law Sally Carlson; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents LaVerne Carlson and Mary (Harold) Benson and his brother Bob Carlson.
