Clarence L. Grove, 99, of Conrad, died early Wednesday morning, July 21st, at the Grandview Heights in Marshalltown. His death came peacefully at 6:05 a.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 24th, at the Conrad United Methodist Church with Rev. Jennifer Daniel officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Green Mountain Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. Friday at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Born on November 14th, 1910, north of Marshalltown in Liscomb Township, he was one of seven children born to Harry O. and Ida Della (Naumann) Grove. He received his education in the rural schools. On February 2nd, 1936, he was united in marriage to Mabel E. Wetherbee at her parents home. Mr. Grove was employed at Ashtons Ford Garage, did farming with T.J. Southard and then the couple farmed near Green Mountain and Dillon. They retired to Conrad after building their home in 1976. Clarence was a member of the Conrad United Methodist Church, the Conrad Lions Club Farm Bureau, former LeGrand School Board member and enjoyed playing and fixing fiddles, music sessions at Beaman and near Albion, wood-working, fixing tractors and inventing things. He treasured his family and loved music. Left to cherish his memory are his four children: Mary Ann (Garry) Hall of Marshalltown, Charles (Bev) Grove of Marshalltown, Robert (Pat) Grove of Marshalltown and Betty (Dennis) Nuese of Dillon, 15 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In death, Clarence rejoined his beloved Mabel who died in 1999, great-grandson Matt, his parents, brothers Harry and William and sisters Estella Edgar, Pearl Hilsabeck, Sue Barnes and Doris Richards.
