Clarence “Bud” Purvis, 93, of Marshalltown, passed away peacefully with his family at his side, on Wednesday morning, February 26, 2020, at Grandview Heights Rehab & Healthcare in Marshalltown. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 29th at the First United Church of Christ in Marshalltown. Burial with military honors will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens, Marshalltown. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church. A memorial fund is being established. Clarence L. “Bud” Purvis was born on February 25, 1927, in Kirksville, MO, one of thirteen children to Clarence and Nepentha (Silvers) Purvis. He attended school in Farrar, IA. On December 19, 1950, he was united in marriage to Delores Allen. In 1952, he was inducted into the U.S. Army and served our country overseas in the Korean Conflict as a military policeman until his honorable discharge in 1954. Bud retired from Emerson Fisher Controls after 35 years of dedicated service. In addition he farmed, laid sod for Lyle Reese, and owned and operated Clarence Purvis Grading. In his spare time, he enjoyed going to flea markets, trading automobiles and spending time with his family. Bud was a member of the American Legion Frank Lewis Glick Post #46 in Marshalltown and the Moose Lodge. Those left to cherish his memory are his eight children: Sherry (Kevin) Grigg of Liscomb, Pam (Freeman) Ohrt Clemons, Bonnie (Jeff) Somers of Green Mountain, Connie (Tom) Stanley of Conrad, Bertie Hadley of Marshalltown, Allen Purvis of Princeton, MO, Rod (Karen) Purvis of Mena, Arkansas, and Steven (Jennifer) Purvis of Garwin; twenty-one grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and a great, great granddaughter. In eternal life, Bud has been reunited with his parents, his wife, Delores, a granddaughter, Bree Anne Purvis, two sons-in-law, Rich Hadley and Rick Karsjen; and twelve siblings: Veda, Velma, Leo, Glen, Floyd, Billy, Bernita, Barb, Betty, Irene, Evelyn, and Beulahmae.
