The kind smile and loving personality of Clarence Veld, age 86, of Marshalltown, left our presence on the afternoon of Tuesday, October 6th, at 5:30 p.m. with his loving family at his side. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 10th, (their 65th Anniversary) at the 1st Friends Church in Marshalltown. Born on February 5th, 1929, at the family home near Conrad, Iowa, he was one of four boys born to Jacob and Mary (Niehaus) Veld. He graduated from the Whitten High Schools class of 1946. On October 8th, 1950, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Virginia Martin, at her parents home in Iowa Falls. They were blessed with 65 years together and a family he treasured. After their marriage, they made Marshalltown their home all of their lives. He was employed at Fisher Controls from 1950 until his retirement in 1986. Clarence was a faithful member of the 1st Friends Church and the Fisher 10 Year Club of which he served as their last President. He enjoyed all kinds of sports, sharing a friendly visit with all he met, being involved in church groups, and dearly loved all events including his family. He had also coached Little League in years past. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 65 years, Virginia: his three children- David (Faith) Veld of LeGrand; Daryl (Robin) Veld of Mingo and Becky (Mark) Steffan of Pipestone, MN; his eight grandchildren and families- Angie (Aaron) Polley with Kalyn and Hunter all of Melbourne; Brandon (Emma) Veld of St. Louis, MO; Seth (Rose) Veld of Raymore, MO; Sean Veld of Germany; Cami (Kevin) McCallum of Harrisburg, SD with Ava, Elodie, Brooklee and Andrew; John (Jaci) Steffan with Jayden of Bullfrog, Utah; Mike Steffan and Abby Steffan both of Pipestone, MN, three grandchildren from his daughter-in-law Faith: Christopher (Darci) Buffington with Gavin, Jayse and Teigen all of Marshalltown; Aaron Buffington of Tama and Tara Brown at home in LeGrand, as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. In death, Clarence rejoined his parents and three brothers-John, Paul, and Eldon.
