Claude Skip Wolken, 71, of Marshalltown, died early Monday morning, December 24th, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 28th, at the Elim Lutheran Church with Pastor Karen Cluts officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens with full military honors by the VFW Harry C. Harter Post #839. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Claude and his family. Ph 641-844-1234. Born on September 16th, 1936, in Marshalltown, he was the son of Harvey and Laura (Gazaway) Wolken. He attended school in Marshalltown and then served our country honorably in the United States Army, serving in the Korean War. On April 16th, 1977, was united in marriage to Amelia Winterfeld at the Peace Lutheran Church in rural Sioux Center, Iowa. They made their home in Marshalltown where he was employed for 36 years as paint supervisor at the Iowa Veterans Home. Mr. Wolken was a member of the Elim Lutheran Church, past member of the Elim Hymn Choir and the American Legion Frank Lewis Glick Post #46. He enjoyed fishing, singing, cooking, woodworking, restoring furniture, gardening and spending time with his family. Left to celebrate his life are his wife Amelia, children: Tammy (Nick) Thompson of Clay Center, Kansas, Randy (Bridget) Colp of Wakefield, Kansas, and Craig (Melinda) Wolken of Marshalltown, grandchildren: Brady, Josh and Jake Colp, Melissa (Trinten) Wille, Matt Thompson, Kylee Wolken (Scott Hanford) and Brandon Wolken, great-grandchildren: Shane and Skylar Hanford and Emma Grace Wille as well as nieces, nephews and a host of friends. In death he has rejoined his parents, one brother, two sisters and his grandparents.
