Born on December 26th, 1929, in Marshalltown, he was the son of Clifford and Hazel (Denton) Hayes. With a birthday the day after Christmas, he often said his parents held a present back a day! At a young age, he knew school just wasnt his fit, so he started working for the railroad. Soon, a friend said he should look into electrical work, and that was the start of a lifelong career. On December 16th, 1951, in Benicia, California, he was united in marriage to Frances Petrie. With his job, they made their home in several areas of the United States, beginning in a small camper her dad had to a more modern 36 ft. camper to moving to Marshalltown. Clifford was a 66 year member of the IBEW Local #347 in Des Moines. Clifford was passionate about music and was a member of the Party Time Players- a band he began in 1985. The band played at Senior Citizen and nursing home events in the area as well as special occasions. He also loved to travel- from coast to coast and border to border and held a special place in his heart for the pets in his life. Left to cherish his memory are Frances, his loving wife of nearly 63 years, his daughter Kimberly Diggins of Council Bluffs, three grandchildren- Jeremy Diggins of Marshalltown and Christy and Michelle Diggins of Council Bluffs, his brother Jack (Barb) Hayes of Marshalltown, sister-in-law Doris Hayes, many nieces, nephews and his cat. Molly. In death, Clifford rejoined his parents, granddaughter Amanda Sue Diggins, sisters Lila, Charlotte and Bonnie, brother Monte Bud and poodle, Sammy.
