Clifford Neil Schaper, 85, lifelong resident of State Center and Colo, passed away peacefully on the morning of Thursday, February 16, 2023 at his home with his loving wife by his side.
Funeral services for Clifford will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 20, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. Memorials will be gratefully received by the Schaper family and, in accordance with Clifford’s wishes, will be given in their entirety to West Marshall sports programs and local fire and EMS services. Clifford Neil Schaper was born on June 13, 1937 in State Center, Iowa to Freddie and Garrah (Williams) Schaper. He attended Saint John’s Lutheran Parochial School where he was confirmed in 7th grade, and went on to graduate from State Center High School in 1955. Clifford served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1958 until his honorable discharge in 1960. On June 21, 1963, Clifford was united in marriage to Lucille Rozendaal in Sully, Iowa. They started their married lives together in rural State Center, before moving to Colo in the Spring of 1995.
Clifford was a lifelong farmer, and also was a crop hail adjuster for fourteen years and drove a school bus for West Marshall Schools for many years. Clifford was a regular at church services, and his Christian faith was very important to him. He was a member of the Rhodes American Legion. Clifford enjoyed attending and watching his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting activities along with the many other events that they were involved in. Clifford also was a proud great grandfather. He loved to travel, and also had an interest in antique tractors.
Clifford is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lucille. Children: Karla (Joe) Przybyszewski of Huxley, Iowa, Lynnette Schaper of Alameda, California, Michelle “Mickey” (Don) Shreffler of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Theodore (Stacie) Schaper of State Center, Iowa. He is also survived by his nine grandchildren: Joshua (Ellen), Gloria, Benjamin, Rebecca, Joy, Alex, Kyle, Renae and Sam along with one great grandson, Nathaniel and numerous relatives and friends.
Clifford is preceded in death by his parents, Freddie and Garrah, and his in-laws, Adrian and Wilma Rozendaal.
