Colleen (Mrs. Rodger) Christensen, 78, of 102 Kearney Street, Union, died early Monday morning, November 5th, at the Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo. Funeral services celebrating Colleens life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, November 9th, at the Union Community Church with Pastor Rick Schill officiating. She will be laid to rest in Nora Springs, Iowa at a later date. Friends may call at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home from 5-7:00 p.m. on Thursday.Memorials may be directed to the Salvation Army. Born Colleen Turner on August 29th, 1929, in Nora Springs, Iowa, she was the daughter of Berlie and Dora (Freestone) Turner. She graduated from the Rockford, Iowa, High Schools class of 1948. On September 10th, 1950, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa, she was united in marriage to Rodger Christensen. They made their home in rural Marshalltown and Union. Mrs. Christensen was employed as a telephone operator for many years and most recently at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center at the switchboard until retiring after 23 years. She was a member of the Union Community Church, the Cedar Valley Danes, loved geneology, her family, embroidery, reading and was a calm, practical person who will be greatly missed by family and friends alike. Surviving are her loving husband of 57 years, Rodger, her children: Curtis (Hope) Christensen of Miami, Jon Jay (Debbie) Christensen of St. Louis, Brian (Janet) Christensen of Waterloo, grandchildren: Joy Marie Christensen, Tyler Christensen, Eric Christensen, step- grandchildren: Celeste (Armarl) Gurmo, Sam (Whitney) Huttig, step-great-grandson Miguel and sister Katherine (Berne) Ketchum of Rowan, Iowa. In death she has rejoined her parents.
