Conrad J. Skip Janca, 67, died Monday, November 3rd, 2008, at Israel Hospice House in Ames. Skip's wishes were for his body to be cremated and no funeral services or visitation be held. Skip was born on April 29, 1941, in Chicago, IL. He was the son of John and Phyliss (Inglehart) Janca. He graduated from high school in southern California. He enlisted in the US Army on September 1, 1961, and served for 3 years as an automobile repairman specialist in Baltimore, MD. After his military service, he attended real estate college. On Halloween, 1976, Skip married Lorrie DeVore in Burbank, California. The couple lived in Burbank, Fargo, ND, Bradyville, TN, and then moved to Marshalltown in 1995. Skip worked previously at Swift for 13 years. He did not miss a day of work and was not late for work during those 13 years. He had most recently worked in the maintenance department at Meskwaki Casino for the last 2 years. He enjoyed working on cars, hot rods, Corvettes, woodworking, and gambling on the slot machines. He is survived by his wife, Lorrie, of Marshalltown; his 9 grandchildren, Angel, Melissa, David, Aiyana, Chantil, Ethan, Ashley, Moleek, and Clarence; his 2 great-grandchildren, Anthony, and Andy; his siblings, Ann Moore of Eldorado Hills, CA, Jan Janca of Victorville, CA, and Josie Dudley of Arizona; and his best friend and co-worker, Kevin Sharp. He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Cindy Santos, who died in December of 2006.
