Cora Lena Katzer

Cora Lena Katzer, age 98, of Conrad, IA. passed away on May 16, 2024, at Grundy Care Center.

Per her wishes and her family, cremation rites have been accorded. A family-led memorial service is scheduled for Saturday May 25, 2024, from 5-7 P.M., at the Alice Church of God in Conrad, IA. (17160 270th St., Conrad, IA 50621). Memorials may be directed to the family for a later designation. Cora Lena Katzer was born on November 27, 1925, in Iowa. She was the daughter of Frank Joseph Katzer Jr. and Lucy Mae (Hess) Katzer. Cora attended high school in Conrad, IA. and graduated with the class of 1943. She continued her education at Finley College in Finley, OH., where she received her bachelor’s degree in physical education. After college Cora returned to Conrad and called it home. For the majority of her career, she was a physical education and a swimming teacher. Cora worked at various school districts, including Mt. Vernon, Chariton, Waterloo, West High School and Junior High till her retirement. She was a faithful member of the Alice Church of God and the American Legion Auxiliary. Cora liked all sports, especially swimming and skiing. On her free time, she enjoyed both domestic and international travel. Cora lived a very active lifestyle.

She is survived by her two siblings, Dr. Earl D. Katzer and Edy Katzer, her nieces and nephews: Kevin Katzer, Brett Katzer, Nancy Rodemann, Pamela King, Holly Howard, Gretchen Hopkin and Todd Grothe, and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Cora is preceded in death by her parents Frank and Lucy, her siblings; Martha (Don) Grothe and Russell M. (Mildred) Katzer, her sister-in-law Lisa Katzer, her great nephews, Jason R. and Gilbert “Gibby” R. and her nephew-in-law David Rodemann.
