Corey Michael Brown, age 13, of Marshalltown, a young man who could light up any room he entered, with his infectious smile and fabulous hugs, passed away Sunday, January 27, 2019. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 2, 2019 at St. Henry Catholic Church with Fr. Don Czapla officiating. Honoring the memory of Corey, his family would encourage the wearing of green (especially Seattle Seahawks green). Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Friday at the church with a 7:00 p.m. vigil service (and a time to share memories). For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com . The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Corey and his family. Phone 641-844-1234. May his passing not be in vain, but become fruitful to those who love Corey. In his memory, please read John 12:23-26. Go out into the world with kindness because you do not know what that other person is going through. Lift others up in prayer and with love. God blessed Craig and Michelle (Johnson) Brown on April 3rd, 2005, in their hometown of Marshalltown, with the birth of their second son, Corey. He joined older brother Sammy as well as many others who loved him. An amazing young man of faith and a true prayer warrior (praying several times daily); he attended St. Francis Catholic School and was currently an 8th grade student at Miller. He loved his teachers and staff at the schools and participated in several sports including cross country, track, soccer, bowling, wrestling, football, baseball and as every 13 year old would- video games. His daily goal was to make people laugh and smile, an accomplishment he never failed at. Corey loved VBS and the Seattle Seahawks, which put him three (Corey, Sammy and Craig) against one- his mom (a Packer’s fan!). Corey was determined to be accomplishing his second choice of career- becoming a veterinarian. His first choice was to become a dog himself. He loved dogs so much, and so many have gifted the Animal Rescue League in his honor. His faithful companion was Cooper, along with Uncle Eddie’s dog, Dakota. He was looking forward to working at Fareway this year when he turned 14 so he could be like his brother, Sammy. Left to cherish his memory are his parents, Craig and Michelle (Johnson) Brown of Marshalltown, his brother and best friend Sammy, Cooper dog, grandma and grandpa Mike and Mary (Pritchett) Johnson of Marshalltown, great-grandma and grandpa Jean and Clayton Johnson of Marshalltown, his uncle Eddie (Tessa) Johnson of Ottumwa whom he and the cousins Carter, Grayson, Kali were all so close, aunts and uncles: Julie (Gary), Annette (Steve), Rick and Jason on the Brown side; great-aunts and uncles, God parents Mark and Fauna Nord, as well as several cousins and countless friends. In death, Corey rejoined grandma and grandpa Brownie, along with many great-grandparents, great-aunts and uncles.
