Curtis “Curt” Close, 64, of Ankeny, Iowa, passed away on the morning of Sunday, September 3, 2023 at UnityPoint Health Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

A celebration of life for Curt will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2023 from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. A family led graveside service will be held at a later date in Quitman, Missouri. Memorials in Curt’s name may be directed to his family for a later designation. Curtis Ray Close was born January 18, 1959 in Maryville, Missouri. He was the second youngest of four children born to Richard “Dick” and Nola “June” (Brown) Close. Curt grew up and attended school in Marshalltown, Iowa. Curt enlisted in the United States Armed Forces and served in the United States Army. During his time in the service, he had finished his education. After four years, Curt was honorably discharged from service.

Upon his return from the service, Curt began a family and went on to have three children, Amy, Kaden, and Cord. He began working for the Iowa Department of Transportation as a driver. He resided in Ankeny, Iowa for 22 years. He was known for being a man of many talents, he had an outgoing personality, tended to be more on the stubborn side of things with people, made people laugh and pulled jokes on them, and always knew how to make you smile.

In his free time, Curt loved to go for rides on his Harley Davidson motorcycle, hunting, going to any live music events he could find, sweeping random people into the dance floor for a good time, riding dirt bikes with his kids, and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his children, Amy (David) Close-Anderson, Kaden (Devyn) Close and Cord Close; his grandchildren, Faithyna Leonard, Lance Leonard, Chase Leonard, Heather (Karns) Sheets, and Georgia Close; his mother Nola “June” Close; his siblings, Rick (Stacy) Close, Bob (Rhonda) Close, and Nola “Kathy” (Buck) Manship; alongside his aunts, uncles and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his father Richard “Dick” Close; his grandparents; and many family members and friends.
