Dale Eugene Gene Russie, 81, died November 4, 2008, at Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center.Graveside memorial services with military honors provided by the Conrad American Legion, Post 681, will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 8, 2008 at Vienna Cemetery in Beaman. Memorials may be directed to Genes family. Visitation will be on Friday evening from 5:00-7:00 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Please feel free to wear casual, comfortable clothing. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Gene and his family.Gene was born on September 6, 1927, at Mormon Ridge, Iowa. He was the son of George Dale and Mae (Langbehn) Russie. He attended school at Conrad, Iowa. Gene served in the United States Army during World War II. On June 19, 1948, he married Donna Mae Van Slyke. They made their home on a farm near Conrad where Gene farmed for several years before retiring and relocating to Missouri. He eventually returned to Iowa to be closer to his family.Gene will be remembered for his kind nature and his ability to find the good in all things. He was a loving husband and a wonderful, nurturing father.Gene enjoyed spending time with his family, reading, watching reality TV, and he especially enjoyed a day at Meskwaki Casino to play cards. He had many friends and a large extended family who loved him dearly.Left to cherish his memory are his 6 children: Connie Ford of Gig Harbor, WA, Greg(Shannon) Russie of Rolla, MO, Cyndee(Ron) Hilderbrand of Marshalltown, Vicki Youngbear of Montour, Barry(Shirley) Russie of Cedar Rapids, and Deb(Steve) Stahl of Marshalltown; his 12 grandchildren, Mike(Anna), Wendy(Mike), Jennifer(Dave), Kristina, Andrea(Matt), Jessica, Kip, Kody(Wendy), Shane(Chantel), Chris, Cari, Matt(Katie), and Angie(Jon); and his 14 great-grandchildren, Jadon, Emily Marie, Emily Ann, Steven, Shelby, Nathan, Andrew, Tyler, Kyle, Dillin, Ryan, Cole, Jase, and Jadalyn. In death, he has rejoined his parents; his two brothers, Harold and Bob; his son-in-law, LaVern Youngbear; and his loving wife, Donna.
