Dan Vannatta, 72, of Albion, Iowa passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2013, at his home. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 5, 2013, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. There will be no visitation. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Dan and his family. Ph. 641-844-1234. Daniel Ernest Vannatta was born on August 1, 1941, in Marshalltown, Iowa to Ernie and Ila (Aves) Vannatta. He attended school in the LeGrand Community School District and graduated high school in 1959. Dan was later united in marriage to Patricia Weaver at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa; after Patsy passed away he was married to Margaret Paul on September 5, 1992, at her home on Church Street in Marshalltown. Dan and Margaret enjoyed their lives together living in Albion for the past 20 years. He retired from Fisher Controls in 1996 after 30 years of dutiful service. Dan loved his two dogs, Buddy and Scruffy, spending time and joking around with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, driving his prized golf cart, collecting miniature tractors, woodworking and playing on the computer. He enjoyed driving the back roads while listening to Waylon, Willie and the boys. Dan was also a member of the Central Iowa Snowriders. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Margaret of Albion, Iowa; children: Troy Vannatta of Marshalltown, Cory (Angel) Vannatta of Marion, Mark Paul of Dubuque, Vickie Kahkesh of Edmond, Oklahoma, Laurie (Lindle) Merriss of Ankeny and Kenneth Paul of Marshalltown; grandchildren: Nick, Megan, Bobby (Becky), Bejan, Kavon, Kelsey, Brandon, Laura (Rodney), Michelle and Kreg; great-grandchildren: Kaydn, Kabl, Kyrin, Karma, Emily, Ashley and Jacob and siblings: Chuck (Karen) Vannatta of Gilman, Myrna (David) Savage of Legrand, Iowa and Jim Vannatta of Montezuma. In death, Dan rejoins his parents, Ernie and Ila; first wife, Patsy; sister, Donna Mae Hoge; and brother, Donald Vannatta.
