Daniel H. Dobbin, 96, of rural State Center, Iowa, passed away, Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at State Center Nursing and Rehab Center. Funeral Services and a celebration of his life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at the First Presbyterian Church in State Center with Pastor Keith McDonald officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Hillside Cemetery at State Center. Public visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home West Marshall Chapel, in State Center, Iowa. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home West Marshall Chapel is caring for Dan and his family. Daniel H. Dobbin was born on June 27, 1916, the son of Henry and Lillian (Taff) Dobbin. He was raised and educated in the State Center school district graduating from State Center High School in 1934. After high school Dan went on to attend Iowa State College. He left college to join his dad, Henry back on the family farm. Dan was united in marriage to the love of his life Betty Lou Sorensen on March 23, 1941, at the Albion United Methodist Church. Dan was a member of the State Center Lions, Masonic Lodge, State Center School Board for 10 years, County and Area School Board for 15 years, Township Trustee, Secretary of the creamery board, Trustee and Elder of the Presbyterian Church and the Lincoln Valley Golf Club. Dan devoted his entire life to operating the family farm. Early in their marriage, Dan and Betty enjoyed dancing and attending community theater. After retiring from farming, Dan developed a love for golf. Left to celebrate his life is his children: Thomas Daniel (JoAnn) Dobbin of Cedar Rapids, Christy (Jonathan) Chambers of Athens, GA.; sister: Kathryn Diamond of Elmhurst, IL; grandchildren: Heidi (Scott) Thompson of Dallas, GA., Neal (Gina) Dobbin of Zeeland, Michigan, Sara Jessie Dobbin of Cedar Rapids, Catherine (Mike) Farley of Athens, GA, Jeffrey Sellars of Cedar Rapids; eight great-grandchildren: Alexander, Devin, Codie, Spencer, Brooke, Lily, Cael and Aidan. In death he was rejoined his loving wife Betty; his parents Henry and Lillian; one brother Robert.
