Daniel Verne Rethmeier

Daniel Verne Rethmeier, 59, of Eldora, Iowa, passed on Sunday (July 25, 2015) at 4:20 p.m. at the University of Iowa Hospital. The son of Verne V. and Dorma Lee (Ingalls) Rethmeier, he was born February 14, 1956 in Marshalltown, Iowa. Dan was a graduate of Marshalltown High School. He worked as journeyman mechanic for Swift and Co, and an iron worker for Story Construction. Dan operated Rethmeier Construction as a roofing contractor and most recently owned The Washboard Laundromat in Eldora. His family will receive friends on 5-7 pm Wednesday at Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. A memorial service in his memory will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, Dan is survived by his children, Danielle (Brad) Lathrop of West Des Moines and Jennifer Shelton of Canton , CT, grandchildren Ty and Gianna, sister, Michelle(John) Herman, Paola, KS and his nieces and nephews. Dan cherished his children and grandchildren. He was a friend to all and was well known as a daredevil and creator of mischief. He was a man's man and could fix just about anything. As a young man he enjoyed riding motorcycles, playing softball and hoisting a beer after the game. Later in life he found peace in country living and his garden. He was preceded in death by his son Joseph, mother and father, brothers, Kenneth and Douglas and sister Cynthia Pilkington. Memorials may be directed to the family via Danielle Lathrop.
