Danny Dean Brown

July 29, 1953 — March 2, 2025

Danny Dean Brown, age 71 of Marshalltown, passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2025 at the Iowa River Hospice House.

Born Danny Dean Brown on July 29, 1953 in Marshalltown, the son of Ralph Oral and Frances Iola (Hazen) Brown. Danny attended Marshalltown Public Schools.

On May 4, 1970, Danny was united in marriage with Jackie Kay Shattuck in Marshalltown. The couple built their home in Marshalltown for most of their marriage; they lived in Colorado and Kansas for a short period of time, but returned home to raise their daughter, Tina.

Danny worked at CIRSI for 13 years and at Lennox for 6 years, where he was a Union Steward. In 2006, Danny retired due to health concerns.

Danny loved his family dearly and enjoyed going camping with them. One of his favorite things to do was tell stories about his grandsons and his life growing up with his siblings. He enjoyed fixing up old cars to sell and motorcycle rides with his wife. Danny told his family that he wanted to be remembered for being fun and a jokester. That was Danny through and through – he had the corny dad jokes down to a T and was always playing jokes on friends and family. He had a spark in his eye for Halloween; he went all out on décor for the kids and loved to see them trick or treating. Danny was a kind soul that would lend a hand to anyone in need. He will be missed by many, family and friends alike.

Danny was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Frances; and brothers, Jim Brown, Phil Brown and Fred Kail. He is survived by his wife, Jackie; daughter, Tina (Warren) Navara of Marshalltown; and grandsons, Jacob Navara of Urbandale and Justin (Fiancé, Maddie Bauer) Navara of Cedar Falls. He is also survived by his sisters, Kathy Bovee, Shirley McSwain and Bev Towlerton; several nieces and nephews; and his dear great – nieces and nephews, including: Alex who was like another grandson to him and his nemesis, Elizabeth, that shared so much banter back and forth with “the old guy”.

Per Danny and his family’s wishes, cremation rites have taken place. There will be a Celebration of Danny’s Life scheduled at a later date.
