Daphne A. Sears, 77, of Union, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, January 29. 2020, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, IA. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 3, 2020 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, IA. Burial will be at the Union Cemetery, Union, IA at 1:30 p.m. Monday. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Sunday, February 2, 2020 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Church of Christ in Union or the Union Public Library in her memory. Daphne Alice was born on November 19, 1942 in Marshalltown, IA the daughter of Henry and Lois (Stewart) Hudspeth. She attended school at Gifford, Steamboat Rock and New Providence. On December 31, 1960, she was united in marriage to Donald Sears. The couple made their home in Union where Daphne was a homemaker and bookkeeper for Don’s trucking and mechanic business. You may have seen her driving a truck. She was a very active member of the Church of Christ and frequently volunteered at the Union Public Library. Daphne was an avid reader and a wonderful cook. She liked to sew and quilt as well as going to garage sales and collecting Ertl toys. Most of all, she dearly loved going to her grandchildren sports and activities. Daphne always had a smile for you. Surviving is her husband, Don; her children: Becky Vaughn, Joan Sears, Mark (Judy) Sears and Pam (Jeff) Thatcher; two sisters, Elaine (George) Haywood and Melody Stephens; her grandchildren: Ginna (Nic) Randall, Lexi (Phil) Metz, Luke Sears, Jessica (TJ Johnson) Sears, Ben (Alex) Vawter, Shyla (Eric) Lampley, Haddie (Colt) Feltes and Mallory Vawter; and seventeen great grandchildren. Preceding her in death are her parents; brother, Alan Hudspeth and son-in-law Tim Vaughn.
