Darla Burns, 62, of Marshalltown passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2015, at her home surrounded by her family. Memorial services for Darla will be held at 6:00 p.m. November 21, 2015 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will take place prior to the service at 4:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family for designation at a later date. Darla Carmer was born on October 6, 1953, in Marshalltown to Lloyd and Lucille Inman Carmer. After graduating from Marshalltown High School in 1971, Darla attended Central Bible College in Springfield, Missouri where she obtained her Bachelors Degree in Education. On May 30, 1978, Darla was united in marriage to Edward Burns at the Faith Assembly of God Church in Marshalltown. Darla spent the majority of her career as an interpreter for Area Education Agency 6 working with deaf and hearing impaired students. She then served Mid Iowa Work Shop for 10 years as Service Manager, retireing in 2010. Darla loved the Christmas season and well known for her Elaborate gingerbread houses she made every year.. She also loved entertaining, cooking for her family scrap booking and traveling, particularly a good road trip. Darla is survived by her husband of 37 years, Edward. Children: Tracy (Kim) Lovig of Marshalltown, Charity (David) Jones of Chicago, Illinois and Wes Burns of Marshalltown. Grandchildren: Rebecca Jones, Raymond Patro and Tanner Patro. She is also survived by her siblings Cecil Carmer, Barb (Jay Nolan) Brown, Brenda (George) Howlett and Daryl (Jody) Carmer all of Marshalltown and her very special friend Sandy Reno of Colorado and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. Darla is preceded in death by her parents Lloyd and Lucille.
