Darlene Brees

Darlene L. Brees, 91, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 22, 2024 at Unity Point Health – Marshalltown.

Services for Darlene will take place on Thursday, February 29 at 2:00 PM at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Dave Martin officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior beginning at 1:00 PM. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Ph. 641-844-1234.

Darlene Lois Clark was born on December 30, 1932 near Iowa Falls, Iowa, to Edward and Myrna Lois (Hayden) Clark. She married Arthur Downs. This union brought eight children. She was then united in marriage to Paul Brees, sharing their life together for 23 years before his passing in 2007. Darlene worked in housekeeping, retiring from the Iowa Veterans Home. She loved her Lord and Savior and was a faithful member of the Fellowship Baptist Church. In her free time, Darlene enjoyed watching westerns, working cross-word puzzles and sewing. She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed her dogs and cats.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Michael Downs of Marshalltown, Kathy Downs of Marshalltown, Joel (Anita) Williams of Grand Saline, TX, Allen (Pam) Cornelison, Sr. of Ankeny, Bobby Downs of Fort Dodge, Pamela (John) Pelham of Collins and Darla (Rick) Coon of Huron, SD; grandchildren: Kyle Downs (Amy Feisel), Jamie Nichols (Damion), Preston Downs, Mary Harris (Brad Collum), Adam Harris (Erica Halfpop), Sarah Downs, Jacob Downs (Stephanie), and Richard Mendyke; two sisters: Melody (Kerry) Holland and Cita (Fred) Jackson; brother Lynn Clark; numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In eternal life, Darlene is reunited with her beloved husband Paul, son Sonny Downs, grandson Gerrad, great-grandson Jaylen, parents Lee and Myrna and siblings: Billy, Marle, Sharwyn, Avon, Jerry, Norma, David and Timothy.
