Darlene Kupka, 77, of Ferguson, died Monday morning, August 24th, at the Southridge Nursing and Rehab Center where she had resided the past week.Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, August 29th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Spilger of the Ferguson Christian Bible Church officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Ph 641-844-1234.Born Darlene Smith on February 20th, 1932, in Marshalltown, she was the daughter of Lyman and Ruth (Finders) Smith of Ferguson. She graduated from the Ferguson High School in 1949.In 1951, she was united in marriage to Jerold Moore. On July 6th, 1974, she was united in marriage to John Kupka at the Little Brown Church. They made their home in Marshalltown until moving to her parents home in Ferguson upon their deaths. Darlene was a fixture of Marshalltown being employed at Taylors Maid-Rite for 46 years. She was a member of the Ferguson Christian Bible Church and was known as Grandma Kupkake to the children in the nursery.Left to cherish her memory are her three children: Cindy Moore of Clive, Judy (Mike) Sanders of Vancouver, Washington and Greg Moore of Clive, four grandchildren: Josh (Nancy) Sanders and children Hannah and Noah all of Beaverton, OR, Joe Sanders of Portland, OR, Allison (Nate) Bonn-Savage and children McKenna and Isaak Heald and Jackson Bonn-Savage all of Turner, OR and Angela Sanders of New York City, Johns children- Karen Guglielmetti of Belle Plaine, Larry (Reva) Kupka in Florida, Russell (Judy) Kupka of Tama, daughter-in-law Deet Kupka of Tama and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a foster son David (Darci) Sunlin of Anamosa and their three children, sisters-in-law Lois Smith of Marshalltown and Helen Kupka of Chelsea, and several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.In death she has rejoined John- her loving husband of 33 years, her parents, brother Carroll Smith, brother Marvin (Mary) Smith, Johns son Jack and brothers-in-law Walter and William Kupka.
