Darlene Purvis

Darlene Purvis, 83, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on the morning of June 30, 2022 at Accura Healthcare in Marshalltown. Memorial services for Darlene will be held on Friday, July 8, 2022 beginning at 1:00 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Darlene’s name may be directed to the family for a later designation. Darlene Marie Hauser was born the only child to parents Glen and Edith (Sink) Hauser on September 26, 1938 in Lamoille, Iowa. Darlene grew up attending school in Lamoille and was part of the last graduating class from their school district in 1956. She continued her education in Des Moines, Iowa at Drake University. On December 11, 1957, Darlene was united in marriage to the love of her life, Jimmie “Jim” Purvis at the First United Methodist Church in Marshalltown. Together they began a family living in Marshalltown and raising their three children, Diana, Annette, and Greg. Darlene was a hard worker and worked for numerous companies over the years some of which included Fisher Controls, Wolfe Eye Clinic, Midland Transportation, and later Walmart where she later retired. In her free time, Darlene loved to go camping, square dancing, and attending CB Club and Moose Lodge events with her husband Jim. She was a collector of cook books and porcelain flowers. She enjoyed gardening and people watching from her deck. She loved her family and was meticulous at keeping things clean all into her later years. Darlene had many fond memories of family holidays where she would cook for the whole family. She enjoyed making sure that everyone was properly fed. With Jim, there were her weekly trips to the beauty salon and she had a reputation of being kind to everyone. Those left to remember and cherish her memory are her children, Diana Purvis, Annette (Bill) Fleming, and Greg (Debbie) Purvis; her grandchildren, Crystal (Jim) West, Marshall Fleming, Michael (Kathy) Fleming, Marcus Fleming, Ryan Storjohann, and Mitchell (Andrea) Storjohann; 16 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Purvis; her son, Craig Purvis; her parents, Glen and Edith Hauser; and her paternal and maternal grandparents.
