Darlene Turbett

Darlene Virginia Turbett, aged 90, of Toledo passed away Thursday morning October 13, 2016, at Central Iowa Health Care. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Friday, October 21, 2016, at Christ United Methodist Church in Toledo, Iowa; memorials may be directed to the family. Darlene Weaver was born in Anamosa, on January 12, 1926, to Frank and Libbie (Elizabeth Kubik) Weaver. The family moved to Tama when Darlene and her brother, Connie, were young teens. She lived there until she married William Turbett in 1948. When she was young she worked for the Tama News Herald, for a time at the Tama County Courthouse, and eventually the Central Iowa Telephone Company, which became GTE, where she stayed for 37 years, retiring in 1989. Bill and Darlene made their home just outside of Toledo, where they raised their 4 children. Darlene was a member of the Tama American Legion Auxiliary for 76 years, joining because her father was a WWI veteran. She also enjoyed spending time at King Tower Caf and Big T Maid-Rite over the years, and in her last years, enjoyed going to Meskwaki Casino to spend time and play bingo. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Eric (Ann) Turbett, Candy Mennenga, Kevin (Kelly) Turbett and Lissa Turbett; 9 grandchildren, and several great and great- great-grandchildren. In death Darlene rejoins her parents, her husband, Bill and her brother, Connie.
