Darlo Pete Long, 78, of Marshalltown, died Tuesday, September 28th, at the Estes Park Medical Center in Estes Park, Colorado.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 4th, at the Elim Lutheran Church in Marshalltown with Pastor Karen Cluts officiating. Immediately following the services, a lunch for family and friends will be held in the church hall. He will be laid to rest with full military honors by the VFW Harry C. Harter Post #839 in the Hillside Cemetery at State Center. Visitation 5-7:00 p.m. Sunday at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Born on November 7th, 1931, at Curlew, Iowa, he was the youngest of five children born to Charles and Eva Mae (Hawks) Long. He received his education in the Ayrshire Schools. Knowing the importance of education, he later had the honor of graduating with his son Craig in the Class of 1983. Pete served our country honorably in the United States Navy in the Korean Conflict.On April 24th, 1955, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in State Center, he was united in marriage to Joyce Brandt. They made their home in Marshalltown where he was employed by Marshalltown Instruments and later Fisher Controls until retirement. He was a member of the Elim Lutheran Church, was active in Little League and a UAW retiree member. Previously, he was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in State Center and served on the church council. Left to cherish his memory are Joyce, his loving wife of 55 years, son Steven (Nancy) Long of Webster City, daughter Cynthia Britson of Lincoln, NE, and son Craig Long of Norwoodville, IA., seven grandchildren: Dan and Sean Frost, Emily and Alicia Long, Kelsea, Kaeli and Kenrick Long and seven great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews and Joyces side of the family. In death, Pete rejoined his parents, brothers Everett, Wilbur and Earl and sister Genevieve Kain.
