Darold Nuese, age 82, lifelong Dillon resident, passed away on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 7th, in the care of Glenwood Place and Iowa River Hospice with family at his side. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 13th, at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Dillon with Pastor Fred Berry officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Lutheran Cemetery of Dillon. Born on May 13th, 1940, in Marshalltown, he was the son of Omar and Marjorie (Davidson) Nuese. He received his education through 8th grade in Dillon and graduated from LeGrand High School in 1958. On March 7th, 1959, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Sandy Duncan, at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Dillon. They made their home in Dillon throughout their married lives. Darold was employed at Dunham-Bush until 1975 when he became employed with Marshall County as a road grader. He later retired in 2002. Throughout his life, Darold was a faithful member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Dillon, serving as trustee and elder for many years. He also served on the Cemetery board for over 50 years and supported numerous LDF/East Marshall school initiatives and events. In his spare time, Darold loved fishing and camping; he traveled to every state in the union with the exception of Alaska, attended many of his grandkids’ and kids’ ballgames, and enjoyed 18 years of wintering at South Padre Island. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 63 years, Sandy, of Marshalltown, his children: Michele (Eric) Devig of Dillon, Darrin (Tracy) Nuese of Dillon, Melissa (Kelly) Madison of LeGrand, seven grandchildren: Ashley (Steve) Grabenbauer of Gilman, Taylor (Alyssa) Devig of Gilman, Amanda (Taylor) Vanden Wynboom of Huxley, Dustin (Erin) Nuese of Ferguson, Abby (Jase) Schossow of Bangor Base, Bremerton, WA, Austin (Veronique) Madison of Chicago and Kenzie (Cole) Jansen of Marshalltown; 18 precious great-grandchildren (soon to be 19), brothers: David Nuese of Dillon and Dennis (Betty) Nuese of Ankeny, sister-in-law Barb Duncan of Montour, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Omar and Marjorie Nuese Robertson, parents-in-law, Max and Bernice Duncan, and brother-in-law Larry Duncan.
