Darrell Barker

Darrell Lewis Barker, 93, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away Sunday, February 25, 2024 at the Iowa River Hospice Home.

Services for Darrell will take place on Wednesday, February 28 at 1:00 P.M. at Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Chad Cook officiating. He will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held one hour prior beginning at 12:00 P.M. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation. Darrell was born November 15, 1930 in Marshalltown, Iowa to parents Lewis and Margaret (Ecklor) Barker. He was united in marriage in 1958 to Mary Burns and the couple was blessed with three children. They later divorced. In 1988, he was married to Vickie Paris-Barker. Darrell worked several jobs over the years, including Mid-Iowa Co-op, painting, lawn care and snow removal and as a handyman. Darrell enjoyed staying active and played park and rec softball until age 65. He loved cheering on the Marshalltown Bobcats and Chicago Cubs, as well as going to sporting events with Steve, Eric and Drake. He also enjoyed traveling, playing scratch tickets and spinning slots at Meskwaki. More than anything else, he loved spending time with his kids and grandkids.

Left to cherish his memory are his children: Karla Andrews, Kimberly (Wayne) Clemens and Christopher (Bobbi) Barker; stepchildren: April Vilez, David Vilez and Dennis Vilez; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Darrell is preceded in death by his first wife Mary, second wife Vickie, his parents Lewis and Margaret Barker, siblings: LeRoy “Bud” Barker, Vernon “Red” Barker, Merideth Farmer and DeLoss Barker; paternal and maternal grandparents and two nieces: Peggy Barker and Sharon Farmer.
