Darroll C White

October 31, 1931 — June 29, 2022

Darroll C. White of Marshalltown passed away on June 29, 2022, at Unity Point Hospital in Marshalltown at the age of 90. Darroll was born in Nashua, Iowa, on October 31, 1931 to Claire and Juanita (Calloway) White. His early education was in Charles City. Darroll’s family moved to Minneapolis where Darroll graduated from Minneapolis North High School in 1951. After living in Arizona and California, Darroll and his wife Helen moved to Marshalltown where Darroll was employed by Fisher Controls for 27 years. Darroll and Helen later divorced. He met Fran Kopel, the love of his life, and married her on July 1, 1989, in Cleveland, Minnesota. They enjoyed 23 years together spending time with family, taking trips to Tennessee and to the casino, and participating in dart leagues over the years. After Fran’s passing, Darroll moved to the Embers in Marshalltown where he met new friends and enjoyed the social gatherings there, especially the 4:00 happy hour times in the Grapevine. Darroll is survived by his sons Aaron (Mary) White of Grimes and Geoff White (Jennifer) of Kansas City. He is also survived by two stepchildren, Jill (Steve) Simons of Marshalltown and Jack Kopel (Theresa) of Mankato, Minnesota. Surviving grandchildren are Alex White, Sarah Simons, Beth Vogeler, Courtney Bethards, Anna Kopel and Ashley Kopel. Darroll’s great-grandchildren are James, Ben, and Levi Vogeler, Logan Azhari, and Simon Bethards. His surviving siblings are Elaine Sampson, Donald White, and David White, all of Minnesota. He is also remembered by his friends at the Embers Senior Living Center in Marshalltown, in particular his special friend, Blanche. He was preceded in death by his wife Fran in 2011, his parents, sister Marlys Guise, and grandson Austin. Private family services for Darroll will be held at a later date. Steve and Jill want to give special thanks to Darroll’s friends at the Embers and his caretakers at Southridge and Unity Point for their friendship, kindness, and compassionate care of Darroll.
