Daryle May Willmott

Daryle May (Gillis) Willmott, 93, of Marshalltown, Iowa, formerly of Hot Springs, South Dakota, passed away on July 31, 2026.

Daryle was born February 7, 1933, in Rapid City, South Dakota, to Everett Terrance Gillis and Mabel May (Yearous) Gillis. She grew up in Hot Springs and graduated from Hot Springs High School in 1951. Following high school, Daryle attended St. Mary's School of Nursing in Rochester, Minnesota, beginning a career devoted to caring for others.

On April 19, 1955, Daryle married Darrel Dean "DD" Hagen. Together they made their home in Hot Springs and had five children-three daughters and two sons. Daryle balanced raising a busy family with her career as a registered nurse at the Veterans Administration in Hot Springs, where she worked for 26 years before retiring in 1990. DD preceded her in death in 1967.

Years later, Daryle became reacquainted with a former classmate, Leo Willmott, at a class reunion. They married on February 2, 1991, and shared 11 years together, making their homes in Ballston Spa, New York, and Hot Springs. Leo passed away in 2002.

Throughout her life, Daryle's family remained at its center. Of the many things she accomplished, she was most proud of her five children and loved being part of their lives and attending their events. As the years passed, that family grew to include grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter. She was well loved by generations of her family.

Daryle is survived by her five children, Susan (Don) Turbiville of Marshalltown, Iowa; Kristina Eberle of Marshalltown, Iowa; Janet (Bob) Dressler of Davenport, Iowa; Tim (Laura) Hagen of Rapid City, South Dakota; and Tom (April) Hagen of Hot Springs, South Dakota.

She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren, Sarah, Ross, Max, Emily, Scott, Anna, Dane, Drake, Bradley and Spencer; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and her sisters, Donna Jenniges and Mavis Olstad.

Daryle was preceded in death by her husbands, Darrel "DD" Hagen and Leo Willmott; her parents, Everett and Mabel Gillis; her sister, Myrna Halls; and her brothers-in-law, Blaine Halls, Ace Olstad and Bud Jenniges.

A celebration of Daryle's life will be held at a later date. She will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery in Hot Springs, South Dakota.

The family extends its heartfelt thanks to all of the caregivers who helped care for Daryle during the final years of her life.
