Born David William Hazen on June 26, 1955 in Marshalltown, he was the son of Elvin and Betty (Mills) Hazen. He grew up in the Marshalltown area, attending school at BCLUW. A hardworking man, Dave dedicated over 40 years delivering furniture for McGregors and most recently ran “The Freez” in Marshalltown. He was also owner and operator of “The Lunchbox” food truck for many years, where he specialized in bringing tenderloins, fried pickles, funnel cakes and many other tasty treats to small-town festivals around the state. Food was much more than an occupation, it was his passion. Dave was an excellent cook and loved feeding people. He enjoyed volunteering his skills, a memorable experience being when he served his tenderloins at the House of Compassion with Trinity Lutheran Church. When he wasn’t hard at work, Dave enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. His family remembers him best for his kindness, patience and open-mindedness. Dave was a fighter and kept his positive attitude throughout his entire battle with cancer. Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved life partner, Debra Guthrie; two sons: Justin Hazen (Ashley Aylsworth) and Travis Hazen (Hannah Hedum); stepchildren: Michelle Guthrie, Marc (Megan) Guthrie, Melissa (Leah) Guthrie Loy and Michael (Allison) Cole; grandchildren: Timber, Drew, Logan, Luke, Stephanie, Tommy, Josie and Jorden; his sister, Cindy Smith and his dog, Zoey. In death, Dave is reunited with his parents, Elvin and Betty.
